Securing
your first job in Private Investment Banking business can be almost
impossible.
Top firms
are anxious to hire determined, intelligent and committed executives. They
want Rookies new to the business, Immigrants moving from other industries
and Veteran brokers looking to change firms. But the cost of training,
managing and financing new comers is expensive. So recruiters prefer
experienced candidates who can produce quickly and work on commission.
Although
that isn't a great way to building consistent success, it has been the
only way for companies to safely build their firms. Until now.
A Long Term
Approach
At
Stonemark, we believe its better to build a team by offering candidates a
program that allows them to grow and prosper at their own speed. We call
it "Step-by-Step," and it's designed to facilitate hiring,
provide training, allow for mentoring and build careers surely and
profitably. Here is how we do it.
To be
Considered
To apply,
just submit your resume, references, and a persuasive letter explaining
your interest and commitment. Every applicant gets serious consideration
and, if things look good, you can expect a phone call to discuss the job,
your expectations and our requirements. We want to know your skills,
dreams and monetary expectations. You can ask any questions you like.
After that we can meet in person to start a formal application.
Start with an
Internship
With luck,
you will get a full or part time Internship lasting 8 to 13 weeks. During
that time, you will get the chance to watch an experienced Dealmaker at
work and to assist with the glamorous (and not-so-glamorous) parts of the
job. You may get to sit in on negotiations, analyze financial statements,
take classes or even do telemarketing and mailroom work.
It isn't
always exciting, but you will soon understand day to day Intermediary
chores. You may love it. You may hate it. But you will definitely know
whether the job is for you. Although Interns can earn commissions they
should think of interning as an unpaid chance to examine a future job
possibility up close before committing to the career. Positions are
offered to promising candidates who may not have proven Investment Banking
experience. It is their chance to get in the door.
Move up to
Apprentice
If your
Internship is satisfactory, you’ll have two options. Experienced
Business Pros can move directly into an Associate position. Those less
experienced may be offered an Apprenticeship lasting 26 to 52 weeks.
During that time, you will be given actual project tasks. We'll provide
training and assistance. You can expect to work 50, 60 or more hours per
week in order to study and master Intermediary skills quickly. Students
can sometimes apprentice while finishing school.
Apprentice’s
can earn substantial commissions depending on performance. A small
salary is sometimes available for highly promising performers. You will
also seek out new clients with the help of an experienced manager to close
deals. All of which can up income.
Promotion to
Associate
Interning
and Apprenticing allows you to absorb skills necessary to become a
qualified intermediary. They give you time to learn and earn without the
requirement to be self-supporting. Once you’re ready, you can be
promoted a full Associate of the firm.
This means
you can represent Stonemark without direct daily supervision. You solicit
clients, make proposals, supervise, analyze, manage and mediate
transactions. Naturally, we'll set expectations and supervise your work.
And we'll offer training and management assistance.
Once an
Associate, commission percentages increase, duties elevate, authority is
increased and responsibilities escalate. Most importantly, you can conduct
as many projects and earn as much commission as your abilities and time
afford. It's like having your own business.
The Sky is the
Limit
As your
skills increase there is the opportunity to move up to Manager or even
Principal in the firm. Promotions are dependent on many factors. They may
come quickly or over time. You may be content to have a profitable
practice or you can apply for greater roles and responsibilities.
Just as we
want to give you a chance to enter our industry, we are anxious to give
you the chance to take on greater responsibilities when you are ready.
Together we can grow in capability, sophistication and reward.
The Next Step
We need
smart, hard working and committed professionals. To be considered, simply
send in your resume, references and application letter. If that's done,
and you like our program, please call to discuss the possibilities.
